Baillieu takes axe to school transport

Students and their families in Casey and Cardinia will bear the brunt of the Baillieu
Government’s latest budget cuts to the Transport Conveyance Allowance, State
Member for Narre Warren South Judith Graley said today.

Ms Graley said local students were just some of nearly 40,000 children state-wide
that would be impacted by the latest Baillieu Government education funding cut.

Ms Graley said the transport conveyance allowance provided subsidised transport
for school students.

“This will be a shock to many parents and schools and will add a significant further
cost to family budgets,” she said.

“At a meeting of local parents at St Francis Xavier College’s Beaconsfield Campus
this week, parents expressed their anger at the Baillieu Government’s latest
education cut.

“The cuts will hit low fee, outer urban and regional independent and government schools
the hardest.

“I have been contacted by local parents who have no other transport options for
their kids to get to school.

“This is just another budget cutting measure from a government whose lowest priority is education. Ted Baillieu just doesn’t get what is important to families or students.”
