Construction commences on Labor’s Hallam Road upgrade

Construction has commenced on the upgrade of Hallam Road, State Labor Member for Narre Warren South Judith Graley said today.

The upgrade, funded by the former Labor Government in the 2010 State Budget, includes three lanes each way from Pound Road to Coral Drive/Fordholm Road and two lanes each way from Coral Drive/Fordholm  Road to Ormond Road.

Ms Graley said that the Hampton Park community has been waiting a long time for this upgrade.

“The Hampton Park community has worked very hard over a number of years to achieve this upgrade, which will improve both traffic flow and safety along Hallam Road,” she said

“As the local MP and, until recently, Chairperson of the Hampton Park Community Renewal Strategic Partnerships Group, I was pleased to have been campaigning with the community for this upgrade every step of the way.”

Ms Graley said that the upgrade will also include a new signalised pedestrian crossing at St Kevin’s Primary School.

“When we were campaigning for the Hallam Road upgrade in the lead-up to the 2010 State Budget, St Kevin’s came to me with a proposal for a pedestrian crossing, and the former Labor Government was pleased to have been able to deliver this as part of the overall project,” she said

“The crossing will improve the safety of both school children and parishioners crossing the very busy Hallam Road.”

The upgrade is expected to be completed by late 2013.
