State Labor Member for Narre Warren South Judith Graley congratulated the Hindu Society of Victoria for hosting a spectacular Deepavali Festival last week.

Deepavali is also known as the Festival of Lights and is celebrated on the fifteenth day of Kartiki in the Hindu calendar.

The Deepavali festival celebrates the triumph of good over evil and is symbolised through the lighting of candles, lamps and fireworks.

Ms Graley said that each year the local Hindu community celebrates Deepavali with extraordinary enthusiasm and a whole lot of fun.

“I was joined by a very large and diverse crowd at the festival looking to partake in the lighting of candles, henna paintings, delicious Diwali sweets, colourful dance performances and the always impressive fireworks display,”

“The stunning Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple, the largest Shiva temple in the Southern Hemisphere was the perfect backdrop for the colourful celebrations.”

Ms Graley said that the Deepavali Festival was a wonderful display of the Hindu, Sikh and Janis faiths in Victoria.

“It is always a wonderful occasion when our diverse community comes together to celebrate an event such as Deepavali,”

“Congratulations to the Hindu Society of Victoria for hosting yet another memorable Deepavali Festival.”
