FIGHT BAILLIEU’S TAFE CUTS – SIGN THE PETITION NOW
State Labor Member for Narre Warren South Judith Graley has launched a petition against the Baillieu Government’s $290 million cuts to TAFE.
Ms Graley said that TAFEs across Victoria have warned of cuts, fee increases and closures in order to meet the funding shortfall.
“Our TAFEs are essential in giving young people the skills they need to get a job,” she said
“As a result of Mr Baillieu’s savage cuts, TAFEs all over Victoria will now have to scrap courses, sack staff and increase fees.”
Ms Graley said that since Mr Baillieu became Premier, Victoria’s unemployment rate has shot up.
“Instead of fixing the problem, by cutting funding to TAFEs he is making things worse,”
“Mr Baillieu may have had a privileged upbringing, but many people in Casey need TAFE to secure jobs.”
Ms Graley said that Chisholm TAFE, which has campuses in Berwick and Cranbourne, will lose around $30 million – a third of its government funding.
“The people at Chisholm TAFE work very hard to give their students the best possible chance of securing a job, but they will now have to make very tough decisions to cope with the funding loss,” she said
“This is a government that just does not care.”
Ms Graley encouraged people concerned about the funding cuts to sign her petition by calling her office on 9704 6055.
