Hospitals underfunded by Baillieu

Dear Editor

The Baillieu Government has failed Victorians when it comes to investing in our hospitals. It has especially let down the patients and staff at Casey Hospital.

The 2011-12 Statement of Priorities for Victorian hospitals data shows Victorian hospitals will perform 7751 less elective surgeries this financial year.

At the same time, the Baillieu Government has broken its promise to deliver an extra 100 hospital beds in its first year in office.

Added to this is the Baillieu Government’s failure to adopt Labor’s plan of a new surgical operating theatre and 30 new beds at Casey Hospital, as well as its cruel refusal to open all 20 cots in the special care nursery.

Families deserve to have their local hospital supported and expanded to keep up with demand.

Our community can only hope that the Baillieu Government will start investing in our health and hospitals in 2012.
