Letter to the Editor: Keep our kids safe
With temperatures set to remain over 30 degrees for the rest of the week I urge everyone to remain vigilante and ensure no child is left unattended in a car.
It can take as little as 10 minutes on a 29 degree day for the interior of a car to reach 44 degrees and within 20 minutes it can reach 60 degrees.
During the recent heatwave in which temperatures exceeded 41 degrees on four consecutive days, a total of 53 children were rescued after being left unattended in a car.
We were very lucky that none of these life threatening situations ended tragically.
If you have to leave your car, even for just a minute, always take your children with you.
Please stay safe, stay cool and lookout for your family and friends as we are again hit by an
extended bout of hot weather.
