NAPTHINE GOVERNMENT MUST FUND AN UPGRADE OF THOMPSONS ROAD
State Labor Member for Narre Warren South Judith Graley called on the Napthine Liberal National Government to upgrade Thompsons Road, between South Gippsland Highway and Western Port Highway in Parliament yesterday.
Ms Graley said that Thompsons Road was an important east-west link for local families and businesses with over 24,000 vehicles using this section of the road each and every day.
“I am regularly contacted by concerned residents fed up with the congestion and constant delays they face on their daily commute,”
“They have had enough of the regular accidents and lengthy delays, particularly at the level crossing and the intersection of Thompsons Road and Western Port Highway,”
“The previous Labor Government understood the importance of Thompsons Road and duly invested $22 million for the upgrade between the South Gippsland Highway and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road,”
“One of the many project delivered by Labor as part of $500 million in funding for local roads in Casey,”
“This is in stark contrast to the Liberal National Government which has failed to commit a single cent to upgrading Thompsons Road.”
Ms Graley said that local residents didn`t deserve to be stuck in traffic as this dysfunctional government worked through its latest crisis.
“Local residents need the new Premier to make fixing our roads a priority of his government,”
“His predecessor and the Minister for Roads have thus far failed miserably and local families continue to pay the price for their neglect,”
“Stop the excuses, fix Thompsons Road and ensure local residents spend less time stuck in traffic and more time with their families.”
