SPEAK UP AND REMIND WOMEN TO SCREEN FOR BREAST CANCER

Each year more than 4000 Victorian women are diagnosed with breast cancer and almost 700 women die from this terrible disease, yet only 54 per cent of women have regular breast screens.

All women aged between 50-74 years are entitled to a free breast screen every two years and all women aged over 40 are eligible to attend a BreastScreen Victoria Clinic.

BreastScreen Victoria has a number of screening and assessment clinics throughout Victoria including ones in Berwick, Cranbourne, Pakenham and Dandenong.

As part of this year’s BreastScreen Victoria awareness campaign Ms Graley is encouraging women to visit a local screening clinic for a breast screen.

“We know that early detection, through screening, offers women the very best chance of a successful treatment,”

“We must spread the word, we must talk to our mothers and sisters, our daughters, wives and friends about the devastating impact breast cancer can have not just on an individual but their family too,”

“I urge local families to have this discussion, to be honest and open, your words
may just save someone’s life.”
