Aged Care Privatisation
To the Legislative Assembly of Victoria
The Petition of the following residents of Victoria, draws to the attention of the House that:
- The Napthine Liberal Government is moving to privatise Victoria’s public sector residential aged care facilities;
- Despite an ageing population, the Baillieu/Napthine Government have closed public sector aged care facilities in Ballarat, Castlemaine, Koroit, Kyneton, Melbourne and Williamstown and privatised one facility in Rosebud;
- The 2012-13 Victorian State Budget Update foreshadows cuts to public sector aged care of $25 million in 2014-15 and $50 million in 2015-16;
- Mr Napthine’s plans to privatise aged care would significantly remove choices for Victorian families.
The Petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly of Victoria urgently calls on the Napthine Government to stop the privatisation or closure of these facilities.
