Labor will invest in local sports clubs
An Andrews Labor Government will invest $100 million to upgrade community sports clubs across Victoria, boosting local jobs and helping clubs grow.
As part of the plan, Victorian Labor will establish a $10 million grant fund to build and upgrade women’s change rooms and facilities at sports clubs across the state.
Many women’s sports teams – including those with younger players – are forced to use male change rooms, car parks or secluded areas at sports grounds. Labor believes women and girls deserve equal facilities.
Contributions of up to $100,000 will be made to councils and sporting organisations on a matched-funding basis, via a bidding process, to upgrade the facilities.
Labor will also provide $10 million to upgrade local cricket clubs, upgrading buildings, grounds and training facilities, developing master plans, and funding equipment, shade and support.
