Ms GRALEY (Narre Warren South) — (Question 6805) My question is to the Attorney-General and concerns infringement fines.
What options are available to assist people in paying their infringement debts?
Many local residents contact my office seeking help with their unpaid fines and the administration fees that very quickly add up. In fact almost 30 000 residents in the City of Casey currently owe $102 million in traffic fines. It is an outstanding and alarming fact.
In many cases local residents have multiple unpaid fines and with the administration fees are facing bills of thousands, indeed tens of thousands, of dollars. The wonderful team at Casey North Community Information and Support Service do an outstanding job helping many of these people in our community, but they cannot do it all. So I repeat: what actions are available to assist people in paying their infringement debts?
